Job Description

The Rehab Authorization Coordinator (RAC) will manage and orchestrate the authorization processions for rehab patients that have payers that require authorization prior to treatment.   

 

Essential Functions

  1. Works effectively with insurance companies to get pre-authorization completed in a timely manner
  2. Organize and track the progress of the authorizations
  3. Communicate with the Rehab Program Managers (RPMs) on a regular basis, keeping them knowledgeable of what treatments are authorized and which are not, on a per-patient basis
  4. Alert RPMs when patients are approaching the end of their authorized windowVerifies financial data for billing purposes i.e. verify benefits, confirm coverage to ensure reimbursement
  5. Build knowledge and develop clerical skills aimed at making the process as efficient as possible (filing, logging, data entry, etc.)
  6. Update and maintain all associated contacts; internal and external
  7. Maintain accurate records on all authorizations, keeping the data clean and easy to follow/manage
  8. Work in tandem with other RACs; sharing tips, paperwork, contact information, and other helpful habits
  9. Prioritizes workload and develops system to track prior authorizations needing additional follow-up
  10. Perform all other duties as assigned

Travel - Less than 5%

Required Education and Experience

Education:      High school diploma or equivalent

Certification:  No certifications required

Experience:    2-3 years experience in nursing, long-term care experience preferred

Demonstrated experience in computer literacy (basic computer navigation skills and Microsoft Office suite)

Medical terminology

Strong customer service skills with outbound calls
